There are many games that I am looking forward to in the future but there is one that stands apart, and that’s Batman: Arkham Knight. As far as superheroes goes, Batman has to be my favourite for many reasons that I will not go into in this article (you will be glad to know). All I know is, is that the latest installment into the Arkham franchise of video games is going to epic, and I cannot wait. Here are some particular reasons as to why I am so excited:
Hmmm, maybe I am being a bit hopeful with this one, considering that The Joker is such an iconic character that he has to be included in everything Batman-related several times over. He has (so far) made an appearance in every Arkham game. His appearances in Asylum and City were understandable, but felt unwarranted in Origins. While it lasted it felt good for the other villains to get the limelight. I think Knight would do well to avoid the Joker and instead let the Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight him(or her)self get more attention.
Easter Eggs and Cameo Appearances:
While Batman is my favourite superhero, I am also excited for the possibility of some of his pals making an appearance, such as Superman or love interest, Wonder Woman. One of the things that I loved about Asylum was how closed and focused everything felt and the fact that there were certain objects in the world that you could scan which would in-turn unlock a character bio. It was always fun to try and link the riddles to the character in question and try and think about who it was going to be.
I would also love it if we could maybe get some playable characters. Some of best moments in City came from when playing as Catwoman, who’s sections felt like a welcome change of pace rather than something that was a bore to play. Another appearance in City came in the form of Robin, but he was unfortunately a NPC.
Seriously though, if they are gonna do anything, they need to BRING BACK CATWOMAN!
The Batmobile, but in moderation:
Now don’t get me wrong, I am VERY much looking forward to the Batmobile and I think it has been a very long time coming. While I am excited, I do have some worries as well. During the E3 gameplay demo of Knight, it showed off the Batmobile in action I couldn’t help but think that it looked a tad arcade-y. This could always be the vibe that Rocksteady are going for, though. My main concern, however, is that everyone’s favourite vehicle ends up being overpowered and the best way to take out goons on the street, rendering using your fists pointless. Either way, it looks like it will be fun to drive in a Gotham 5x larger than what we have seen in the previous games.
Better Boss Battles:
Out of all of the Arkham games so far there is one battles that stands out for me, and that is the battle with Mr. Freeze. It was a battle that actually made you think rather than just beating the villain in question to a pulp. You had to take him down in multiple ways because as soon as you used one way to do some damage, he would remember it and you couldn’t use that method again.
It would be great to see some more things like this, as I am sure every Batman villain could be implemented in a cool and interesting way to make a unique and satisfying boss battle.
Well those are a few things that I would like to see from the upcoming finale of the Arkham game series. I guess the last thing that I can think of is that it lives up to the other (Rocksteady) Arkham games, and it looks like that could well be the case with Rocksteady putting a delay on the release date to make the game the best it can possibly be.
