When you think of gaming franchises that live by annual releases there are many different titles that come to mind, whether these be Assassin’s Creed or, of course, Call of Duty. Another of these franchises is the Need for Speed series which, since 2001, has managed to release a game every year. However, it has been announced that there will be no title released this year. We know that there is one in the works, but it won’t be released until some point in 2015. Ghost Games, the people behind the latest installment into the series, Need for Speed: Rivals, are currently busy developing the next game. Rivals proved to be one of the most successful games in the series for some time, providing a sense of speed with a vast open world where there was literally something to do around every corner.
Ghost Games’ GM, Marcus Nilsson, spoke out to fans on the Need for Speed official website concerning future plans for the series:
He said, “We’ve made the decision to not release a Need for Speed in 2014, so we can work towards a highly innovative Need for Speed in 2015. An experience built on a foundation we know you’ll greatly look forward to.”
Nilsson also mentioned in his statement that just because there won’t be a game this year, it doesn’t mean that they won’t be giving us regular snippets of information and teases of the new game. Are you excited about this new installment? How do you think they can shake up the formula to keep the games fresh? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks, [Gamespot].
