I am guessing that a lot of you watched the unveiling live anyway, so this will already seem like kinda old news, but the new Xbox (“the ultimate, all in one home entertainment system”) was revealed, which is known as the Xbox One. A far better name than the “Xbox 720”, as most people would agree.
There is also a set of exclusive games to be released along side or shortly after the release of the console in November. This could be Microsoft trying to make amends for the fact that they had very few exclusives in the last generation. In fact, MS have said to be bringing out eight new franchises.
Something that some people might not be happy about is that the console will NOT be backwards compatible, so you won’t be able to play your Xbox 360 games. However, this will not be an issue for most people.
The main idea of Microsoft’s new console is that it is an all-in-one media hub, for all of your needs. Lets not forget the Kinect 2.0 though, which brings in some very nice features, like the console being voice activated. “Xbox On” activates the console and takes you to your personalised home screen, where you can access everything you need.
“Live Switching”, another set of voice commands, allows you to switch between the different features of the internet browser, games, movies and music. The user will use a series of standard hand gestures to move around the console’s menus. There is also a “Snap Mode” which allows many different programs to be on the screen at once. This means that you can be watching one of your movies while having your friends on Skype on the screen at the same time. Of course you could just have Skype running in the background instead, though.
Watching TV will also be easy, though the use of personal favourites, the motion and speech controls and seeing what is currently popular on the world wide network.
It all looks amazing, but to be honest, all I want is an Xbox One controller for my PC. No doubt we will be receiving more interesting news on the console in the coming weeks and months that lead up to it’s November release. Leave your thoughts of the new console in the comments section below.
