An executive at Epic Games has called Sony’s latest console a “really perfect gaming PC”. We already know that the PS4 utilizes off the shelf computer components meaning it easily rivals what a lot of PCs can already do.
He also stated how a lot of PCs fall short by only running a 32bit version of Windows:
“The other exciting thing is that… when you think about Windows, even Windows for most people is tied to about 2GB of addressable memory space. This really opens up beyond what most PCs can do, because most PCs are running a 32-bit version of Windows.
“It’s like giving you the world’s best PC,” he added, pointing to Sony’s introduction of “super convenient” features such as the ability to play games while they’re downloading and perform background updates.
The following video is a good example of the PS4’s power. It shows the Unreal Engine 4 ‘Elemental’ demo running on the console:
All of this forthcoming news just makes me more excited about what Microsoft are going to pull out of the bag with the new Xbox. Either way though, I’ll remain a happy PC gamer for the foreseeable future – running a 64bit version of Windows. [CVG]
