The Internet could crash. We need a Plan B

In a great TED Talk, Danny Hillis warns of the impending doom that a global internet failure would bring. This is a lovely, short and concise talk that demonstrates the short-falls of the current implementation of the internet. He (in my opinion, successfully) compares the internet to the banking system – a system that worked fine initially, but broke when manipulated in ways that couldn’t be comprehended when initially created. What would happen to you if the internet failed tomorrow? No more news; power systems would grind to a halt and you can forget about email and telephone. Could you cope? [ted]
