Goodbye Camshaft – Hello Actuator

The design of the internal combustion engine hasn’t altered much since 1859, thanks to Koenigsegg that could change soon. The camshaft in an engine controls the movement of valves, they allow fuel to enter the cylinders and exhaust gasses to leave.  The issue is that they are not easily controlled, the speed and motion of individual valves can’t be altered. That’s where a new idea comes in. Using individual actuators instead of a camshaft allows greater control, meaning higher power output and also greater efficiency.
