Human Brain to be Simulated in Next Ten Years

Thanks to a ten-year European venture called The Human Brain Project (HBP), scientists are about to start work on simulating the entire brain using many super computers.  The project hopes to enable further work on brain research including curing Alzheimer’s and bring the singularity ever closer.

The HBP will build new platforms for “neuromorphic computing” and “neurorobotics”, allowing researchers to develop new computing systems and robots based on the architecture and circuitry of the brain. – EFPL scientists

This is a project on the scale of the LHC, it could really advance our understanding of the brain and our ability to create ‘intelligent’ machines.  HAL 9000, the Matrix and Skynet are drawing nearer… [HBP]
